GCBC House Rules

The following house rules apply when playing social, barefoot and corporate bowls at Gold Coast Bowls Club & Community Centre (GCBC):

Bare feet, socks or flat-soled shoes/thongs only on the green.
To protect our greens, shoes with heels, hard soles or heavy tread are not permitted.

Footwear must be always worn inside the clubhouse.

Food or drinks are not permitted on the playing surface. When taking your drink to the other end, please walk around the outside of the green. Please play appropriate music when using our JBL Party boxes around the greens (NO FOUL LANGUAGE)

Refreshments may be enjoyed in the shaded seating areas surrounding the green and must be purchased inside the club (as we are a licensed venue).

The Green is designed for bowling only. Please refrain from any other activities other than bowling. If you wobble more than your bowl, you may be asked to have a water and sit in the shade for a while. The edge of the green (ditch area) is not designed for seating.

If you require a seat, please use the benches and shaded seating areas provided around the green.

Bowls must always be rolled along the ground.

Under no circumstances should bowls be thrown, dropped or delivered above knee height, as this can damage the green.

Anyone misusing equipment may be asked to leave the playing area.

Our staff or bowls coordinator will demonstrate the correct way to deliver a bowl before play begins.

The aim of the game is simple — get your bowl as close to the jack as possible.

  • Play alternates in both directions.
  • Place the mat and jack in the centre of the rink before each end.
  • Look for the small circle on your bowl — that is the side the bowl will curve toward.
  • Both feet must be on or above the mat when delivering your bowl.
  • Right-handed players step forward with the left foot; left-handed players step forward with the right foot.

If you’re unsure about anything, just ask — we’re here to help!

Children are welcome at GCBC but must be always supervised by an adult.

For safety and insurance reasons, minimum age requirements may apply for play on the main greens. Please speak with staff regarding junior participation and availability of smaller bowls.

Smoking is permitted in designated smoking areas only.

Please ask staff for the location of the designated area to help maintain a safe and pleasant environment for all members and guests.

Barefoot bowls is a relaxed, social activity perfect for parties, corporate events, celebrations or a casual catch-up with friends.

Enjoy the game, respect the greens, and make the most of your time at Gold Coast Bowls Club & Community Centre.
